The Sr Director of Solution Architecture leads a team of Sr and Jr Solution Architects in Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Capital and Omni Channel, for both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. This Sr Director of Solution Architecture partners with each department's leadership team to define and prioritize its multi-year technology roadmap. The Sr Director of Solution Architecture also mentors Business Analysts who plan and the roadmap projects, in partnership with other internal and external resources, on time, on scope and within budget. This Sr Director of Solution Architecture will be responsible for the Enterprise Solution Architecture of all company's strategic initiatives. This role must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management both within and outside of the IT department.

Serve as leader of the Architecture of all Supply Chain, Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Back Office, Digital and Store Operation technology team
  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify and prioritize technology initiatives
  • Define technology roadmaps that align to long term business objectives for the company
  • Lead and mentor team of Solution Architects and Business Analysts
  • Work with Solution Directors to create and manage annual IT capital budgets for the Merchandising & Global Sourcing domains
  • Perform team capacity planning, work prioritization and resource allocation
  • Provide regular status and risk reporting to IT and business senior leadership
  • Define and ensure adherence to project management processes, templates, standards
  • Serve on departmental process improvement initiatives
  • Monitor the software market (current and/or new providers) for relevant solutions
Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance
  • Develop partnerships with the following key stakeholders
  • Executive sponsors to document scope and approve project charters
  • Internal and external development resources to ensure solutions meet requirements
  • IT networking, engineering and security to maintain compliance with corporate standards
  • QA to define testing strategy and execute regression and user acceptance testing
  • Training to define training strategy, develop materials and deliver training
  • Internal Audit to ensure project controls and SDLC processes are followed
  • IT Operations to ensure a successful transition to support

  • Occasionally serve as primary project lead on strategic initiatives
  • Determine appropriate project structure, work streams and team leads
  • Develop and maintain project plans with detailed tasks, activities, deliverables and timelines
  • Manage and evaluate project resource requirements
  • Continuously assess and re-evaluate project priorities; develop contingency plans
  • Facilitate project schedules and meetings
  • Document project decisions, action items, issues and risks
  • Maintain project document repositories
  • Serve as primary liaison with external vendors
  • Maintain, manage and report on project financial budgets, actuals and forecasts.
  • Prepare project status reports and steering committee presentations
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.
  • 10 - 15 years of related work experience, with 3+ of senior management experience highly preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience, preferably within an IT department
  • Experience managing complex technology projects
  • 10 - 15 Inventory Management Systems
  • 10 - 15 Retail or consumer products experience
  • 10 - 15 Merchandising & Global Sourcing technology experience
    • Core merchandising systems
    • Financial planning, assortment planning, and forecasting systems
    • Floor planning, space planning, and plan-o-graming systems
    • Price and markdown optimization systems
    • PLM and logistics tracking systems
  • Experience managing the work of external / offshore vendors
  • Experience in SQL and PL/SQL and Oracle
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Team player with excellent collaboration skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Self-starter with sense of urgency
