Manufacturing Engineer-Prototyping

Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer, Prototyping role will report to Prototyping & Validation Team Leader within Novelis Customer Solution Center in Novi, MI (Novi CSC). He/she will play an important role in coordinating activities for prototyping projects between Design, Simulation and Enabling Technologies Teams within Novi CSC to ensure project deliverables are completed on a timely manner, taking into account the most viable and cost-effective manufacturing routes and prototyping options. This will often require the incumbent to work efficiently with other members of the Novi CSC team to resolve design and manufacturing issues. Furthermore, he/she may need to coordinate and communicate the internal activities with external manufacturing and business partners to support the effective execution of projects.  

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• BSc Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering.  


• Design/ CAD skills and experience, with ability to develop manufacturing routes based on design concepts. 


• Knowledge of CAE methods for automotive applications. 


• Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with sheet-metal manufacturing processes such as stamping, adhesive bonding and welding for automotive body structures. 

• Knowledge and experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, including roll forming, robotic forming, laser-enhanced processes, hot & warm forming is considered a strong asset for this role. 


• Experience and formal training in technical project management, especially in automotive industry is highly desirable. 


• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). 


• Knowledge of automotive structural testing. 


• Familiarity with inspection and certification methods.
